Information system on extractive waste management

Directive 2006/21/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the management of waste from extractive industries and amending Directive 2004/35/EC has been transposed into the legal order of the Slovak Republic by adopting Act No. 514/2008 Coll. on the management of waste from the extractive industry and on amendments to certain acts (hereinafter referred to as ”Act No. 514/2008 Coll.”), which entered into force on 15 December 2008. This legislation provides minimum requirements to prevent or reduce as far as possible any adverse effects on the environment as well as any resultant risks to human health, brought about as a result of the management of waste from the extractive industries (extractive waste).

The information system on extractive waste management is one of the tools to support the implementation of the provisions of Act No. 514/2008 Coll. The information system was created on the basis of section 16 of Act No. 514/2008 Coll. The information system serves to ensure the collection of data and information on the management of extractive waste for the needs of public administration bodies and for purposes of public information as well as public participation in the procedure of permitting of extractive waste facilities according to Act No. 514/2008 Coll.

• registry of operated extractive waste facilities,
• registry of closed extractive waste facilities and abandoned extractive waste facilities,
• registry of extractive waste facilities operators,
• registry of documents:
  • waste management plans,
  • issued permits,
  • summary reports on the results of monitoring and controls of extractive waste facilities,
  • summary reports sent to the European Commission,
• registry of major accidents that occurred at extractive waste facilities,
• information on best available techniques for extractive waste management.

The information system on extractive waste management contains a list of legislation, methodological instructions, manuals and other documents related to the issue. The documents are available for download in the section Basic Information/Documents to download.

The operation of the information system, its updating and access to its content is provided by the Slovak Environment Agency under the professional responsibility of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic.

Access to the information system is created in two levels, on the basis of authorization for users using the information system to fulfill their obligations and without authorization for the general public.
